My Vice, My Poison
By: Abe Sierra Jr.
Your words are sharp as knives,
but it’s your silence that cuts the deepest.
Your eyes expose your lies
whenever you speak your truth.
But I refuse to see right through them,
so perhaps it’s my fault.
I chose to stay,
like a dog, loyal to its master even when deserted.
Denial is my vice, my poison.
I’ve given up my rights, I’ve chosen
to forgive and not forget you,
to relive
the myths that make you seem so perfect.
Your abandonment pulls me closer;
your neglect is just magnetic.
