A Rainy Day in the Neighborhood

The rain falls and washes the windows clean

 

It nourishes the roses in the community garden

and supplies the birds in the park enough

       to drink and bathe themselves in

 

 

It gives the grass in the yard another day to look forward to

 

     In the summer,

it refreshes the kids whose struggling mothers can’t afford an A.C.

 

 

But the one thing this rain fails to do…

       is wash the blood stains off these war-torn streets
